My Thoughts-Exercising

Here I sit to just take a break from exercising. I have exercised 2 hours today and still have 30 minutes to go. Wow, I am exhausted. I know that it is good for me, but so much work for so little results. This two days of exercise and third day of rest is all that is keeping me going. I know that tomorrow is my rest day. Thank goodness! Then it will be right back to two days of exercise and then the day of rest. When I weighed Tuesday, I had only dropped 6 ounces from last week. Maybe I should just be happy that I hadn't gained 6 ounces. I better finish up the 30 minutes and then off to get cleaned up. To think that tomorrow I won't be tied to exercise!!!!!! YEA!

My Thoughts-Exercising

I know that some people LOVE to exercise, but exercising is just not one of my favorites. Yes, I know it makes a healthier body, but it isn't burning near enough calories as far as I am concerned. I have done a one hour with my weighted vest on already. I am going to try to exercise one more hour and thirty minutes before three. Then if I have anymore ump I will push a little more. Tomorrow is my day to jump on the scale and hold my breath. Geez, I hope I have lost at least one ounce. Anyone else out there exercising to shed pounds?

My Thoughts-Mexican Food Cookbooks

I am still searching for Cinco de Mayo recipes, but thought I would put a few cookbooks in a list. So look in the column to the right for a short list of Mexican food cookbooks. This makes me want to get up and start clanging around in the kitchen or better yet go out for some Mexican food today. I may even go by the book store in search of these books.

My Thoughts-Exercising

Oh, my today was my day to rest. I am exercising two days and then resting one and then exercising two days and resting one. Today was my day to rest and rest is what I have done all day. I am now thinking about the 2 1/2 hours of exercise I will do tomorrow and the next day. UGH!!! I hate to exercise and no pounds are saying bye, bye. Well, actually 20 pounds have said bye, bye on a good day, but on a bad day only 17-19. Today I was searching for recipes and once again the newspaper was my source. I will post them and cause my mouth to water just thinking about FOOD. I guess that is why no pounds are leaving me fast enough becaue I like to EAT. Hope that many will enjoy the recipes that are posted.

Dancing With the Stars

Anyone like this show? I LOVE it and wish it just continued from one week to the next. Who do you think will win? Maybe I will put a pole to see what you think. I will try to do that ASAP. Got to go and watch the dancers.

Where Have I Been?

I don't know what I have been doing, but I will get back to posting here once again. I am rediscovering myself since retiring. It is such a treat to do what I want to do and when I want to do it. That is exercising, reading, shopping, new interests, and my errand service. I hope you will once again find some new recipes that I will be posting plus maybe other ideas.

Need a Digital Camera

I do need to get a digital camera to snap pictures and then post them here on my food blog. I just don't know which kind or what features to notice when looking for one. Usually I think maybe a new feature will be available if I wait just a little longer or they will improve on a feature. Really, to be truthful it seems that when I buy something it goes on sale at a reduced price ten minutes after I have paid for it. So if any want to share info about your digital camera and the features you find most important for food picture or any picture taking, leave comments. I do need help with spending my money on just the right camera. Help! SOS!

New Year's Day

Do you have those black eyed peas ready to cook for good luck? I do. Let's see, I think we need something green for hopes of money during the 2008 year. We usually cook cabbage, but today it may be turnip greens. Do you think that will do for something green? I think the menu today will be that good chicken spaghetti that is frozen, those black eyed peas, some turnip greens, and don't want to forget the garlic bread. Oh, yes, I think we will get that frozen cake out that our friends sent us for Christmas. That will top off our meal for today. I can already tell that it is going to be one of those lazy days that I will sit around, maybe exercise a little, and read a book or watch a good movie. Hope you all have a great day and don't forget to prepare those black eyed peas and something green in your home today.

Brain Games

I came across this web site on Prevention that has a variety of brain games to play. I thought I would share it with others that might want to use their brain like I need to. So play these game for the brain for fun like I am going to do.

Knife Knowledge

I read this article in the paper today about the proper knife for different jobs. Chief Brian Patterson, knife skills instructor at L'Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Md. recommends five essentials. The 9-or 10-inch chef's knife: This knife chops, dices and juliennes fruits, vegetables and herbs. This is I would think the main knife of the kitchen. The serrated slices: It is used on fruits and vegetables, like pineapples, and delicate vegetables like tomatoes. It is known as the basic knife. The paring knife: This knife peels potatoes, pears, apples, and other fruit and vegetables that you might need to peel. The small filet knife: This knife is used to break down fish and most poultry using a scalpel-like tip. The flexible blade is good to use.
The carving knife: This knife is good to shear meat from cows and turkey. The article mentioned that most home cooks can get by with the first three mentioned. When we shop for a knife it suggested that we get good quality knives. Two things to watch for are good balance in our hand and a tang (the metal blade) that extends fully into the handle. I am not one to have all the knowledge about knives so this information that I read in this article was helpful and I wanted to share it with others.

Baked Cake & Bread

Yesterday I made the TURTLE CAKE that I posted earlier. It was delicious. I had one and a half pieces and decided that was all for me. I am working on getting rid of pounds, but had to reward myself for the 17 pounds I have said bye, bye to. Today was Amish Friendship Bread baking day so I have three loaves of that wonderful bread in the oven baking and the smell is drifting into the den as I post. I will be freezing them and getting them out in the future days to enjoy with coffee. Just to let all know that the TURTLE CAKE is a cake that you might want to bake because it is really easy and quick to do and time is precious for most of us.

Day After Thanksgiving-To Shop or Not

I just don't have the want to today to go get in that crowd of shoppers. I don't care at the moment if they are giving it away as I drive to the door and they bring it to the car. This shopping can wait for me as far as I am concerned so if anyone gets a good bargain, let me know. Then I will probably change my thoughts and wish that I had met the force of the crowd.

Apron, what's that?

Do many wear aprons when they cook? I don't, but I bet many do. I guess I just put on my comfy clothes, start mixing, keep stirring, and at all times getting decorated with what's popping out of the pot. I was just looking for aprons and found many sites with apron making directions. I'm not into sewing, but the directions on the link I've included looked simple. Gee, I must find an apron to protect my kitchen attire! One link to directions for making a kitchen apron

Featured cooks/chefs on the cooking network

I find myself glued to the television when Paula Deen is on. Do you? She is one of my favorites to watch. Maybe it is because she is so southern. My mouth begins to water and I grab a pen and paper to jot down her recipes. I would love to have your comments about your favorites on the cooking channel. Hmmmmm, what should I cook today?

Cookin Up a Storm

Since I now have the time to think about all the things that are fun and what I enjoy doing it will be my job to add to this blog. This blog is going to be fun to create. I know that I will have some lumps and bumps along the way as I polish and work on it. Isn't that just like life? We have a little sweet and a little salt along the way, but mixed together in the needed amounts, it always turns out just right. I plan to share recipes that I love and recipes that my friends have tried. I want to explore holiday ideas to share and maybe even special occasion tips. Because we are all thinking about our health and fitness, maybe there will be some tips for getting fit and some yummy low fat recipes or snacks to try, if that is possible. When was the last time that you read a good book? I want to share books that I have read and also books that friends have recommended to me. When was the last time you ate in a unique little tea room in my world of east Texas? Well, I am going to feature some of my eating out adventures. These will be excursions that I have shared with friends and family. Come along on this journey because I don't know where it will take me, but I will be cookin up a storm of fun and I'll share what I find out along the way. I hope to post only positive comments so be ready to smile and maybe I will even get some giggles as you read posts as they are added. You might even want to make comments along the way and I hope you will.
